What is a Transfer Window?

In order to protect TLD domain names from being transferred to another registrar without your authorisation, a 'Registrar Lock' is applied to these names.

If you wish to transfer a TLD domain name (.com, .net, .org, .biz or .info) to another registrar, you first need to authorise the system to allow the transfer and remove the 'Registrar Lock'.

A Transfer Window is used to do this, the lock is removed for a period of 7 days to allow the new registrar to request the transfer.  After 7 days if the transfer has not been initiated the lock will be reset to avoid an unauthorised transfer in the future.
